Career Choices
What is the right career for you
Acareer plan is essential if you are to get the job of your dreams.
You may have seen reference to such things as listing your strengths and weaknesses. List your qualifications and experience. Completing these tasks can be daunting and challening.
They actually sound logical questions. For instance why would you apply for a 'cold calling' sales job if you can't face rejection? Why would you apply for a job in accounts if you can't work with numbers?
This though seems to be the normal way of doing things in our society.
When I talk to my clients about creating a career path, there are those who are passionate about it and those who do not know what to do. The passionate ones will stop at nothing to get the career they want. It has been proven that only 5% of the worlds population actually are so passionate that they get what they want. The other 95% go from job to job or no job at all. They do not have the drive to be anywhere in particular.
Career plan
Asking people about the career path you have chosen can be good, but not whether you should take that path. When you ask people about your chosen career their answer will always be about whether they want you to take that career, not about how you should achieve that career.
If you do want to involve people close to you in your choice then ask a different question, such as.
"If I chose this career what sort of tasks will I have to perform?"
Asking this way keeps their focus on your career and not on what they want.
Find out first of all what the type of career you are after involves.
Doing a little research on the company you are hoping to join would also help. It will get you into the mental state of feeling you already work there.
One major downfall at career interviews is that the person being interviewed does not believe they could be offered the job. You must believe you can do it and it must show in your body language.
Consider this;
Having found out as much about the job as you can, you should then look into what qualifications you will need. If you need to get more qualifications then do it.
One mistake a lot of people make is they see that the job requires a degree in bio science and all they have is a basic education. This stops them in their track.
What has happened is that they are not planning their career, they are focusing on what they have not yet achieved instead of what they need to do.
